A remote island off the coast of Australia was once home to a real monster with vampire-like tendencies. The Tasmanian Tiger, which was known for its massive jaws and sharp incisors, stalked livestock and terrified the human inhabitants of the island before a bounty brought about the Tiger’s extinction almost eighty years ago. But if the eyewitness stories and scientific breakthroughs are correct, this creature may be on the verge of making a comeback. Across Tasmania there have been over 350 sightings of this monster, including reports from experienced biologists and outdoorsmen. Meanwhile, in an Australian laboratory, one scientist is using a preserved strand of DNA in an attempt to resurrect the tiger. Now, the MonsterQuest science and expedition teams will seek to find the ultimate proof that the Tasmanian Tiger could be alive and stalking the subtropical forests of this distant island.

EAST SOOKE PARK – An unusual sight on an East Sooke beach has become a rare and valuable specimen for marine biologists. And the carcass of a nine metre grey whale that washed ashore is also proving to be quite the mystery as well. It’s still not clear why the whale became beached or what killed it. But among the curious crowds today was a prominent marine biologist who tried to answer all the questions.

Part 3 Across the world, people are reporting increasingly frequent encounters with frighteningly large crocodiles. Millions of years ago prehistoric cousins to today’s crocodiles stalked the earth, ate dinosaurs and grew to enormous sizes. Known as “Super Crocs”, these massive beasts were apex predators that grew to lengths of up to 40 feet and could weigh as much as eight tons. Today, record-size crocs max out at just over 20 feet, but witnesses are saying crocodiles are getting much bigger. MonsterQuest takes to the mangrove swamps and rivers of Florida where biologists will track down an American Crocodile larger than any seen before.

IS THE H1N1 VIRUS A TOOL BEING USED BY THE NEW WORLD ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR GOAL OF 80% REDUCTION OF THE POPULATION? OR IS IT REALLY A TRUE THREAT? WELL SINCE APRIL, THE IDEA OF IT BEING A GENUINE THREAT HAS BEEN TOSSED OUT THE WINDOW BY MOST PEOPLE. SEVERAL SCIENTISTS AND MICO-BIOLOGISTS HAVE COME OUT AND SAID THE SWINE FLU VIRUS IS A DESIGNER VIRUS, OR MADE IN A LAB. ITS SHOWS SIGNS OF GENE SPLICING WHICH DOES NOT OCCUR IN NATURE. SO IF THIS IS A MAN MADE VIRUS, WHERE DID IT COME FROM? WHY THE HUGE PUSH TO FORCE THE VACCINES ON PEOPLE? ALSO IF THE VIRUS IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING, MORPHING, AND MUTATING, HOW CAN THEY SUCCESSFULLY VACCINATE PEOPLE?

A documentary on Orcas from the late 80s, filmed by Jeffery Foott and narrated by Lloyd Bridges. I make no guarantees about the scientific validity of the claims in this film. Most sciences have progressed quite a bit since the 1980s and, frankly, as far as I know this entire documentary is a bunch of lies. Maybe Lloyd Bridges had an irrational hatred for marine biologists and, conspiring against them, plotted in the late 80s to make a documentary that spread false information about killer whales. That doesn’t sound much like Lloyd Bridges (more like Jeff Bridges, if you ask me) but you have been warned. This comes from an old Beta tape so the video quality is poor and the audio quality is terrible. I did the best I could with it.

Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth allegedly provides incontrovertible evidence that this is the case. President Obama are committed to passing economically devastating legislation that will do little to nothing to stop global warming. Contrary to what is heard in the media, however, there is overwhelming evidence that the warming we are experiencing is natural, with maybe a small amount contributed by man’s activities. Nor is there any scientific consensus. 31000 scientists have signed a petition stating there is “no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide is causing…catastrophic” warming. The debate is still raging within the scientific community. In this DVD, Sovereignty International has put together interviews of respected climate scientists and biologists from numerous sources who explain, step by step, why Al Gore and the global warming alarmists are incorrect. In some cases, blatantly so. The DVD also provides evidence that the global warming agenda is being funded with tens of billions of dollars as a mechanism to create global governance. Hear from congressmen, experts and even well-known news broadcasters how global governance puts global institutions, especially the United Nations (UN), that are not accountable to the American people in control of every aspect of our economy. The skyrocketing gas and food prices today are a direct result of this agenda.

Feb 2003 The American Navy prides itself on its sophisticated equipment. However damning new evidence suggests that this technology is damaging marine ecology. A beaked whale flounders in distress off the coast of the Bahamas. Within hours, 15 more mammals are beached along the same coastline. Marine biologists proved that the US Navy’s high intensity sonar had severely damaged the mammals’ brains and ears, causing them to beach themselves. Produced by SBS/Dateline Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

The plasma membrane demarcates the inside of the living cell from the outside, serving both as the ultimate physical barrier and location where the cell transacts its business with the outside world. The study of the structure of cell membranes continues to be fertile ground for research for many biologists today; the idea of “Membrane Rafts” has only heightened interest in this area. The main focus of this three part series is to explore the concept of “Membrane Rafts”. In the first part, we will examine what is popularly understood by the term “Membrane Raft” and ask why this concept was proposed in the first place. This requires an appreciation of the most dominant picture of a biological membrane, “the fluid-mosaic” model. “Membrane Rafts” were hypothesized in response to this model to account for observations of segregation of membrane components made in cell systems. Different proposals to account for the segregation of membrane components and many methodologies used to identify membrane rafts, including the pervasive detergent insolubility method, are also discussed in this lecture. This part is aimed at a general audience or for an advanced undergraduate-level student. See more at www.ibioseminars.org

In this new millennium SCUBA diving is well on its way of becoming one of the fastest growing recreational sports enjoyed by both young and old. Divers travel thousands of miles to experience amazing wonders of the underwater world and where would diving be better than in the biodiversity hotspot of Southeast Asia: Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. With its sandy beaches, tropical islands, blue waters, coral reefs and atolls, Sabah has several dive sites rated to be amongst the top ten in the world and many more yet to be truly explored. Over the years many prominent marine biologists have visited and dived Sabah’s waters, including oceans’ greatest ambassador, Jacques Cousteau. He commented ‘I have seen other places like Sipadan, 45 years ago, but now no more. Here we have found again an untouched piece of art… a jewel’. In fact a diver may find many rare or endangered sea prenatal and hawksbill turtles, napoleon wrasse, giant clams, as well species of sharks and schools of thousands of barracuda and jacks. But Sabah is not only known for the larger inhabitants of its reefs, but also as a ‘muck diving’ paradise with such rarities as the mimic octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, mandarin fish, harlequin ghost pipefish plus many types of weird and wonderful frogfish and nudibranches. These underwater delights are not restricted to the certified diver; snorkellers and hopeful divers may enroll in one of the many PADI affiliated dive courses run at any of Sabah’s dive resorts. Whatever …

As part of the US. Fish and Wildlife Service’s BP oil spill response, we are one of the trustees of the Natural Resource Damage Restoration and Assessment Program. The purpose of this program is to make our natural resources whole at no cost to the American people. In order for that to happen, workers like Ingrid Brofman spend their days assessing areas in the Gulf according to strict procedures. Here, Brofman discusses her work.
